Nepal Telecom (Ntc) launched the country’s first 5G Network Trial in Nepal. On Magh 22, 2079, the government-backed operator’s 19th anniversary, it launched the most cutting-edge mobile network in existence.
Huawei, a leading supplier of telecommunications equipment, has supported Nepal Telecom’s 5G initiative. The Chinese tech giant has introduced “first time in Nepal” technologies and has a long history of supporting Nepal’s telecom sector. Huawei has assisted the country in launching several networks, including 2G, 4G, and more. The company has been present in Nepal for 22 years and continues to grow, offering new services to customers.
Additionally, Huawei has played a major role in the rapid expansion of Nepal Telecom’s 4G service, due to its comprehensive 4G network portfolio. The presence of Huawei in Nepal has brought customers newer services and has lasted for 22 years, showing its commitment to the growth of the country’s telecom sector.

At present, Nepal Telecom’s 5G network is only compatible with a limited number of smartphones from manufacturers such as Huawei, Xiaomi, and Vivo. The launch of the 5G network trial was initially postponed on January 1st due to a shortage of compatible devices.

5G Network Trial in Nepal
Now the NTC is moving towards a 5G network trial in Nepal by launching test networks in Kathmandu and other parts of the country using Huawei radio equipment. NTC 5G in Nepal
Nepal Telecom (NTC) has finally launched its 5G network trial, 2 years after receiving the spectrum from regulator NTA. The telco is using the 2600 MHz frequency, a widely used spectrum internationally for advanced networks. During the trial period, Ntc will take advantage of the mid-band 5G frequency, which is expected to be used for commercial rollout as well.
Huawei and Qualcomm have been instrumental in the development of 5G, with Huawei being the world’s leading 5G gear provider. 5G is set to meet the growing demands of modern-day internet use and will have a wide range of applications in various commercial sectors, including IoT, AI, and telehealth. 5G is expected to be a key driver of technological transformation.
After a 5G trial
Nepal has entered the 5G network trial in Nepal era with Ntc launching its trial network, but there are still challenges ahead. Although the trial period is expected to last a year, the availability of 5G-compatible devices may take a few more years to become widespread.
Ntc’s 4G network currently covers 98% of the country, but work on improving the service should continue for better coverage and affordability. Despite this, Ntc and Ncell have both launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) in Nepal.
While 4G will remain important for millions of users in the near future, the demand for 5G is expected to grow in the coming years. Ntc’s 5G trial has started in Babarmahal and Sundhara and the company plans to expand to other areas and provinces soon. The trial will be based on non-standalone architecture and the data gathered will be used to determine the commercial launch of 5G.
