Camera
Samsung has finally decided to leap with 200MP cameras in Ultra after attempting to stick with 108MP for several years. Well, but the 200MP is not new it has already been used in multiple smartphones in 2022.
As you know Motorola X30 Pro was the first phone to embed a 200MP camera with an ISOCELL HP1 sensor. Although the cameras were made by Samsung and made a massive production last year, along with other affordable sensors including 200MP sensors, ISOCELL HP3 and HPX, for more affordable phones, latter for more exclusive phones in China like Note 12 series.
The recent rise in the use of 200MP cameras in smartphones can be attributed to chipset manufacturers that have integrated hardware support for these cameras into their latest chips, such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and MediaTek Dimensity 9200 for flagships and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and Dimensity 1080 for mid-range phones.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, however, uses a new sensor called ISOCELL HP2, which is a 200MP flagship sensor designed specifically for this device. With a 1/1.3” sensor and 0.6µm pixels, the ISOCELL HP2 is positioned between the HP1 and HP3 sensors and allows for 12.5MP photos with 16:1 pixel binning and 8K recording at 30fps. The other camera components, such as the two telephoto lenses with 3X and 10X optical zoom, are largely unchanged and listed as 10MP sensors.
Night Photography
The use of a high-megapixel camera, like the 200MP ISOCELL HP2 in the Samsung S23 Ultra, offers improved digital zoom capabilities. With the increased megapixels, users can zoom in on a specific portion of an image while maintaining a high level of detail. Samsung touts the ability to capture “Epic Night” photography with the ISOCELL HP2. This allows for capturing night skies in motion with the new Astro Hyperlapse feature.
Additionally, the S23 Ultra’s Optical Image Stabilization and noise reduction technology result in clearer, smoother night videos. The company has also improved its night portrait capabilities. Another feature of the S23 Ultra is the ability to record 8K videos at 30fps, compared to 24fps on the previous S22 Ultra.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
As the criticism hits the last year’s Exynos chips’ performance, the company is said to be done with its in-house chipsets. That means they have said to include Qualcomm’s latest chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 as their new processor.
Samsung is rumored to be using an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset in the S23 Ultra. This version called the “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy,” features an overclocked Prime Arm Cortex-X3 core with a clock speed of 3.36GHz and an Adreno 740 with a clock speed of 719MHz.
This bespoke version is said to be part of a partnership between Samsung and Qualcomm that may continue in future Samsung flagships until Samsung develops its own in-house chipset.
Samsung phones featuring Satellite Communication
Satellite communication is one feature TENAA did not specify but is undoubtedly included in the Galaxy S23 Ultra. With the iPhone 14 series, Apple made the function well-known in the US and is now bringing it to other countries. Samsung appears eager to jump on the bandwagon.
This feature will be available on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, including the Ultra variant. But at debut, it will only be available in a few regions, just like the iPhone 14. Rumor has it that Samsung will make use of Iridium’s low-orbit satellite network. It is believed that Samsung’s approach will be more functional than Apple’s, but we will have to wait and see for ourselves.
Display & Battery
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra boasts a large 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a QHD+ resolution of 3088 x 1440 pixels. It is the only model in the series with this feature and is equipped with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1Hz to 129Hz, an improved Vision Booster solution, and a peak brightness of 1750 nits.
The device is also protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and features Armor Aluminum frames and IP68 dust and water resistance. The design and build of the device remain similar to that of the S22 Ultra.
The Ultra will come equipped with a 5000mAh battery and supports 45W rapid charging. It runs on the latest One UI 5.1 software, which is based on Android 13, and the manufacturer promises to offer at least 4 years of Android updates. The device also features a built-in S Pen for taking notes and drawing.
