The first MacBook Pro of the year is here folks, and it comes with a pleasant surprise. Apple has decided finally to ditch the Butterfly keyboard for something much much better. A Magic keyboard. No, it doesn’t cast spells as you type on it (much to my personal disappointment), but it does provide hands-down probably the best typing experience ever on a MacBook Pro. With double the storage and much faster performance, Apple has definitely stepped up its game with the Macbook Pro 2020.
MacBook Pro 2020 Overview:
Display and Style:
The MacBook Pro 2020 comes with a 13″ Retina display. Bundled along with a handy Touch Bar and Touch ID, the design is something to feast your eyes on. The sleek Aluminium unibody design weighs just 3 pounds(~1.4 kgs) making it highly portable and light. It isn’t as slim or light as a MacBook Air but hey, they’d call it the MacBook Air 2020 if it were so.
The magical Magic Keyboard:
The Magic keyboard, which has gotten a lot of love lately, has been integrated into the design. The redesigned scissor mechanism of the back-lit Magic keyboard allows for a much more comfortable and stable typing experience. This is hands-down the best keyboard experience you can get on a MacBook Pro yet.
Hardware and Internals:
With reading speeds of over 3GB/s, Mac SSDs are pretty darn powerful. The MacBook Pro 2020 doubles the storage of its predecessors. So, the storage ranges anywhere from 256GB in the standard version to 4 TB in the more high-end variants. The RAM also gets an optional upgrade. For the first time in MacBook Pro history, Apple offers a 32GB RAM variant as well.
The 10th-generation quad-core Intel Core processors with Turbo Boost speeds of up to 4.1GHz promise up to 2.8 times faster performance than the dual-core MacBook Pros. Also, the Intel Iris Plus Graphics deliver up to 80 percent faster performance than any MacBook before it, making tasks like 4K video editing, heavy load gaming and video rendering much faster and smoother than ever before. What’s more, this also enables users to connect to the Apple Pro Display XDR at Full6K resolution.
The device also holds (thank God) an actual 3.5 mm audio jack port. With a couple of handy USB Thunderbolt 3 ports, this number might be a bit disappointing to users who frequently use a large number of external media drives simultaneously.
Pricing and Availability in Nepal:
As of yet, it hasn’t been launched in Nepal, and that might not change for quite a while. However, the price of the 256GB MacBook Pro stands at $1,299. This roughly translates to NRs. 1,70,000, disregarding any additional price hikes. The full expected pricings of the MacBook Pro variants are given below:
