Google Pixel 5, the phone branding itself as the “Ultimate 5G Phone”, has become the talk of the town recently. Google’s Pixel lineup of smartphones has always been an attention-grabber and with a mid-range monster like Pixel 5 taking the throne next, things are looking brighter for the future of 5G smartphones. Despite these chipsets reportedly costing double the cost to make than their non-5G counterparts, Google has somehow managed to pack in more RAM, better cameras, and fast wireless charging into the phone. But is this new Pixel really live up to its hype? In this article, we will go over the new Google Pixel 5, and see if it really could be the best 5G smartphone made so far, considering its price.
Google Pixel 5: The Best 5G Smartphone Yet?
5G at less than a G:
One of the main concerns for 5G phones is the price tag that comes along with it. As numerous sources have indicated, making 5G phones IS NOT CHEAP. But with 5G technology spreading across more areas, it’s inevitable that smartphone companies will have to figure out something smart to hop onto the 5G bandwagon.
With the Pixel 5 (and the Pixel 4A 5G), Google has officially taken the plunge to 5G technology. Although Google’s own Pixel 4A 5G promises the 5G experience at less than $500, it’s clear that many corners have been cut to make the phone as cheap as it is. The Pixel 5 is a perfect compromise and comes with the best of both worlds. While it doesn’t best the Samsung A71 5G in terms of price, it definitely comes with a lot of extra features and upgraded performance. We can easily see this phone being a top competitor for mid-ranged 5G phones under $1000.

Cameras:
Pixel cameras and its proprietary Google Lens software are hot names when it comes to mobile photography. Even though they come relatively lightweight, hardware-wise, the software optimizations on the powerhouse make each photo sport crystal clear details and vivid colors. The Pixel 5 doesn’t let go of this but seeks to improve on it further.
With a 12.2 MP wide camera, Google has also decided to top things off with a 16 MP Ultra-wide camera. Coming with features like dual pixel PDAF, Night Sight, Auto-HDR, panorama, 4K video@30/60fps, etc, this definitely earns a point for the Pixel 5 camera wise. Google has also added an extra super-smooth panning feature for video capture, aimed to give a very Hollywood-esque vibe to its videos.
Battery:
The Pixel 5 comes with 4080 mAh non-removable Li-Po batteries. With Adaptive Battery that learns your favorite apps and reduces power to the ones you rarely use, the charge on this gizmo easily exceeds a day after some use. What’s more, the Extreme Battery Saver mode allows users to stretch out their battery life to up to 48 hours when they really need it.
What’s most cool about the Google Pixel 5 is the new fast wireless charging feature. Using the Pixel 5’s, not only can you also fast charge your phone at 18W, but you can also use Battery Share to wirelessly charge your Pixel Buds. Additional features like Reverse Charging and USB Power Delivery 2.0 are also available.
