When the Poco M3 Pro 5G launched back in May 2021, it took the smartphone market by swirl for its pricing. The good news is that it has continued its forte here in Nepal as well. Launched at a price of NRs. 23,999, it might very well be the cheapest 5G phone available to Nepali consumers. But with such a low price tag, what actually does the Poco M3 Pro has to offer, let’s take a closer look.
Poco M3 Pro 5G Overview:
Design:
To keep the cost low, the Poco M3 Pro 5G rocks a plastic build. The plastic frame holds together the plastic back and the front panel. Upfront is a 6.5” inch FHD+ DotDisplay protected by a slightly dated Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This is an LCD panel and the brightness here is 400nits that peaks up to 500nits in HBM (HighBrightness Mode). As for the refresh rate, the Poco M3 Pro can switch between 30,50,60, and 90Hz based on the type of content being viewed on the display. There’s a 360-degree ambient light sensor capable of adjusting the brightness minutely up to 4096 levels.
The glossy back panel houses the triple camera module with LED flash and the huge Poco branding. This is the aspect that differentiates it from the Redmi Note 10 5G that it basically is. As for the color options, The Poco M3 Pro 5G is available in three colors: Poco Yellow, Power Blue, and Cool Blue. The device measures 8.92mm in thickness and weighs in at 190 grams.
Performance and Memory:
At the helm of the Poco M3 Pro is the MediaTek Dimensity 700SoC. This octa-core chipset fabricated on the 7nm process features two clusters- two Cortex-A76 cores and six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 2.0GHz, respectively. It is then paired with 4/6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of UFS2.2 storage expandable via microSD. Do note that this is a hybrid SIM slot.
Handling the graphic duties is the Mali-G57 MC2 GPU.
Software and Connectivity:
On the software front, the Poco M3 Pro 5G runs MIUI 12 built on top of Android 11.
When it comes to connectivity, the Poco M3 Pro 5G supports 12 different 5G bands and supports dual 5G standby. There’s dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac as well as Bluetooth 5.1. The Poco M3 Pro 5G does have NFC but it isn’t standard and is available only in select regions.
Cameras:
On the optics side of things, the triple camera setup on the back of the Poco M3 Pro comprises a Primary 48MP f/1.8 camera, a 2MP macro, and a 2MP depth sensor. The primary camera is a ½” inch sensor that helps in low light and shoots 12Mp shots natively with 4-in-1 pixel binning. The bummer here is that the Poco M Pro maxes out at 1080p 30fps video recording.
The selfie shooter is an 8MP f/2.0 lens that can also record 1080p 30fps videos.
