Apple has unveiled the a 16-inch MacBook Pro at its “Unleased” event on October 18. Along with two variants of Apple MacBook Pro, they have unveiled AirPod 3 and HomePod Mini Speaker. Similarly, the MacBook Pro is now configurable with two more powerful variants of chip: M1 Pro and M1 Max. Here is an overview of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, its new features, specification, price, and availability in Nepal.
MacBook Pro 16-inch Overview
Design and Display
The MacBook Pro 2021 has a subtle but significant re-design. The 100% recycled aluminum chassis provides better airflow. It has thinner bezels which were by approximately 60%. Apple has said goodbye to its controversial Touch Bars and replaced them with physical keys. Beneath the keys is a new setup of 6 speakers that supports spatial audio, 4- tweeters, and 2-woofers. The new 16-inch Pro is 14 x 9.8 x 0.7 inches and weighs 3.5 pounds, 4.7 pounds (M1 Pro), and 4.8 pounds (M1 Max). Apple has brought back MagSafe charging with a new MagSafe 3 charging port.
The 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 has embedded one of its new Liquid Retina XDR displays. The exact mini- LED display was on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021, but it now is on the MacBook for the first time. Moreover, the 16-inch MacBook Pro features 16.2-inch LED mini display with a 3456 x 2234 pixels screen resolution. It has an Apple’s ProMotion adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz. And it can achieve 1,600 nits of peak brightness.
Ports and Webcam
Apple has expanded the port options on 16-inch MacBook Pro. It consists of three Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports, 1 HDMI port, 1 SDXC card slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Furthermore, Apple has restored the MagSafe charging port on the left-hand side with a new MagSafe 3 charging port.
In the top bezel of the 16-inch MacBook Pro display, there is a new 1080p FaceTime Camera. The Apple silicone processing system has clear, crisp, vivid images and video quality.
Performance and Memory:
Apple has released its new MacBook Pro with a new piece of Apple silicone. What surprised us was its chipset: M1 Pro and M1 Max. The M1 Pro features a 10-core CPU(8 performance cores, 2-efficiency cores), a 16-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural engine. Hence, the M1 Pro is now more powerful than the M1 chip, with more CPU cores, more GPU cores, a better media engine, and a greater memory bandwidth. Similarly, the M1 Max is still more powerful than the Pro. The M1 Max features a 10-core CPU, a 32-core GPU, and double memory bandwidth. It provides two video encoder engines and 2 ProRes encoder/decoder engines to make the video editor beast. In addition, 16-inch Pro can support two external XDR monitors. Meanwhile, M1 Max can add a third monitor plus a 4K TV.
Battery life
The power efficiency has improved in the new 16-inch MacBook Pro model due to the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipping. Both processors guarantee a high performance per watt. As a result, the battery will last up to 21 hours even after the video playback. Similarly, it also supports fast charging. Apple says a 16-inch pro can provide up to 50% battery charge in 30 minutes.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 is now available for order. Its price starts at $2,499, fitted with an M1 Pro chip. It includes a 10-core GPU and a 16-core GPU with a unified storage space of 16 GB and a 512 GB SSD. If you need a higher power, you can buy the M1 Max chip model at the price of $3,499. It packs a 10-core CPU, a 32-core GPU, and storage of 32GB and a 1TB SSD. Meanwhile, the estimated price of the 16-inch MacBook Pro 2021 is at NPR 390,000 for M1 Pro model and NPR 485,000 for the M1 Max model in Nepal.

Apple always amazes its user with the newly released products. The promises they have made sometimes meet the user’s expectations. Meanwhile, they also face backlashes for their works.
