Apple MacBook Air M2 Overview
The entry-level new redesigned MacBook Air with the M2 chip in the WWDC 2022.
M2 Chip
MacBook Air is the first laptop with a second-gen Apple Silicon M2 chip. The newly implemented chip is based on unified memory architecture and prioritized power efficiency.
The chip is built on a second-gen 5nm node with 20 billion transistors and features eight CPUs while offering improved efficiency and performance cores.
As for memory, the chip has up to 24GBmemory, with a total bandwidth of 100GB/s, and SSD storage is configurated with up to 2TB.
What is the difference between M1 and M2 chips?
The M2 chip CPU is 18% faster and GPU is 31% faster which can handle 4K as well as 8K videos better than the M1 chip due to new media and ProRes video engines.
Build & Display
Not only internal but Apple has modified the MacBook Air M2. It comes with a unibody made out of recycled aluminum and is 11.3mm thick with 1.25 kg in weight.
Likewise, the company is offering more color options: Midnight, Space Grey, Silver, and Starlight shades.
For Display, It comes with a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display and thinner bezels while offering double resolution and low-light performance.
Performance
The book features an 8-core CPU with 4 performance and 4-efficiency core. The company also claims that the book is able to squeeze 40% faster than the previous model. Additionally, the MacBook Air also has a 10-core GPU and 16-core neural engine for improved performance.
Furthermore, It supports Spatial audio, HEVC, and ProRes HDR with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG.
Battery & Charging
The latest MacBook comes with a bigger battery of 52.6Wh while the company also put MagSafe charging which means users can use the two Thunderbolt Ports and other accessories as well.
It also claims to charge up to 50% in 30 minutes while supporting 67W USC-C charging. However, the adapter is optional. You will only get a 35W power brick in the box. The one in the 10-core GPU variant features two USB-C ports to charge two devices simultaneously.
