Design
The Hero 12 Black retains a familiar design, resembling previous GoPro models. It now has a textured body with blue accents, and a notable addition is a 1/4-20 mounting thread for standard tripods. Camera
The camera sensor remains the same as the previous model, with the ability to shoot in various aspect ratios. It can capture 27MP photos and utilizes the GP2 chip. Video capabilities include 5.3K at 60 fps, 2.7K at 240 fps, and 4K at 120 fps.
However, the Company notably added an HDR video shooting at 5.3K30 and 4K60. While improving video stabilization with HyperSmooth 6.0, offering horizon-leveling even during 360° camera rotation. It can now record audio directly from Bluetooth devices like Apple AirPods.
There’s a new vertical capture mode for shooting vertical videos, and Interval Photo for capturing photos at set intervals. Night Effects presets are available for time-lapses, and professionals can utilize the 10-bit GP-Log profile for enhanced post-production control. Timecode Sync simplifies multi-camera editing.
But while compared to the previous model, the physical design remains the same with slight updates such as a speckled blue-on-black finish and a mounting thread for tripods.
Battery & Other Features
It comes with a 1720mAh Lithium-Ion Enduro battery, similar to the Hero 11 Black, but with a more efficient power management system that provides up to 2x longer runtimes. This means up to 70 minutes of shooting at 5.3K60, over 95 minutes at 5.3K30, and over 155 minutes at 1080p30, all with HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization. Unfortunately, the Hero 12 Black does not include GPS.
