The upcoming HarmonyOS 4 is confirmed to launch this fall season of 2023. Along with several new capabilities for all the platforms including smart cars.
During the 2023 Huawei Smart Car Solution Conference and the launch of Huawei ADS 2.0, Yu Chengdong (CEO of the Consumer BG & the Intelligent Automotive Solution BU & Director of the Investment Review Board for Smart Devices and Intelligent Automotive Components), confirmed that the upcoming version of HarmonyOS will greatly benefit smart car manufacturers by simplifying the process of building new vehicles with a HarmonyOS cockpit.
HarmonyOS 4.0
The HarmonyOS 4, is specifically designed for the automotive industry. These include multi-person, multi-device, multi-screen, and multi-sound zone capabilities, eye tracking and recognition systems, and improved model learning for smart cars.
While also promising to offer advanced multi-user control features for a “truly multi-dimensional experience”. Meaning it allows multiple users to control various aspects and functionality while creating a more immersive and personalized experience.

The OS may also include several AI-powered features, which was confirmed by CEO Yu Chengdong. Stating that “Huawei HarmonyOS 4.0 along with the incorporation of AI will be enhancing the comfort and security of the car models.”
HarmonyOS 4.0 in Smartphones
It is not clearly unraveled but it is that OS 4 will enhance the software performance to integrate with other platforms. Along with improved Super Device features and there may also be new changes in on-screen personalization, all with a focus on AI.
It is said that the HarmonyOS 4 for smartphone devices will be launched in July. While it is uncertain, however, it has already been officially, the HarmonyOS 4 for smart cars will take place at the Huawei Developer Conference 2023 (HDC 2023).
HarmonyOS 3 & HarmonyOS 3.1
The HarmonyOS 3 software is introduced in July 2022 and was launched with the Huawei Mate 50 series in October. Later, it was rolled out to older devices through an OTA upgrade.
It was a fast and efficient Super Device panel that supports more platforms. It also has smart folders, an updated version of large folders, and improved widget management options such as stack and group features.
As for HarmonyOS 3.1, it was launched pre-installed in the Huawei P60 series in March. Which included a new lock screen personalization feature. Likewise, improved object recognition and tracking, as well as better low-light photographs in the camera segments.
Both the OS comes with improved features and security enhancements, making them more efficient and personalized for users.
