Grey market is referred to the distribution (sales) of official goods via unofficial channels. Meaning in its entity everything from stole phones to importing phones in bulk or the phones that haven’t been accepted ( or received “Type Approval”) from NTA. Resulting in legal revenue for the government and official importers being lost in their business.
For this problem to solve Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) begins by making IMEI registration compulsory and now the MDMS is for the same purpose. The MDMS was delayed because of COVID-19 (second wave) which was originally said to go live in around 2078 Jestha.
Although the original plan was subsequently attempted it didn’t go as planned. But, on Shrawan 27, 2079 the event was held by NTA, Mobile Phone Importers Association (MPIA), Nepal Mobile Distributors Association (NMDA), and other official authorities assured to implement MDMS by Bhadra 30.
So What is MDMS you say?
To put it simply, phones that are brought illegally will not be operated and will efficiently eradicate the illegal sales of smartphones.
