Built & Display
Samsung has given the Galaxy S23 and S23+ a makeover, taking cues from the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. The new flagships feature individual camera bumps for each lens instead of the Contour Cut camera design seen on previous models. The main distinction between the standard and Plus models lies in the screen size, with the S23 boasting a 6.1-inch display and the Plus version featuring a larger 6.6-inch screen.
Both models come with Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology and the ability to adjust refresh rates from 48 to 120Hz. They also have HDR10+ certification and are the first phone to have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Samsung has also increased the peak brightness to match the S23 Ultra’s 1750 nits.

Performance
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series now features phones powered by Snapdragon, rather than Exynos. Samsung has decided to go all-in with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for its latest flagship phones, which has been labeled as “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy”.
This move follows a recent partnership between Samsung and Qualcomm, which was announced when Qualcomm named Samsung as the official smartphone partner for the Snapdragon Pro series e-sports league.
Compared to the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Galaxy variant has a higher clock speed, with the Arm Cortex-X3 “Prime” core reaching 3.36 GHz, compared to the 3.2 GHz cap on other Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered phones.
The remaining performance and efficiency CPU clusters have maximum clock speeds of 2.8 GHz and 2.02 GHz, respectively. The Adreno 740 GPU, based on Immortalis, is also clocked higher at 719 MHz compared to the 680 MHz on the 8 Gen 2.
Memory
The Samsung Galaxy S23 series uses the latest LPDDR5 technology for RAM and UFS 4.0 technology for storage. However, UFS 4.0 is not available for the 128GB variants. The standard Galaxy S23 comes in two memory configurations: 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB, while the Plus model only offers the 512GB option and skips the 128GB variant.
Camera
Unlike the Ultra, which features the exclusive 200MP ISOCELL HP2 sensor, the S23, and S23+ have to make do with a 50MP main camera. The secondary cameras on these models include a 10MP telephoto camera and a 12MP ultrawide camera.
To compensate for the similar hardware setup compared to the S22/S22+, Samsung has made improvements on the software front. The S23 and S23+ come with improved Nightography, Night Selfie, and Night Selfie Video features. The phones also allow for shooting in High Resolution and Expert Raw format, and provide a Photo Remaster tool to add finishing touches to photos.
Additionally, the S23 and S23 Plus will come with a 12MP selfie camera, marking the first resolution upgrade since the S10 in 2019.
Battery/Charging
The standard Galaxy S23 is powered by a 3900mAh battery and supports 25W fast charging. Meanwhile, the S23+ has a larger 4,700mAh battery and can charge at a faster speed of 45W. Both phones also have 10W wireless charging capabilities. The devices will run on Android 13 with One UI 5.1 out of the box.
