Vivo remains a top smartphone brand in Nepal, unveiling the Vivo V27 in mid-2023. After extensively using the Vivo V27 for nearly two months, we’ll cover its performance in media consumption, photography, gaming, and more. This article provides a detailed long-term review of the Vivo V27, highlighting its overall versatility and capabilities for everyday users. Before I start with the details, the price of the phone is Rs. 58,999, compared to the Indian price it is somewhat okay.
Vivo V27 Review:
Design & Built
The Vivo V27 boasts a high-quality design featuring a back that changes texture, giving it an elegant touch. Its display has minimal bezels and curves, creating a sleek appearance. The phone’s sides are plastic, and the rear camera module is neatly rectangular. Overall, its premium design justifies its price.
The device typically includes ports and buttons, such as a Type C port, volume rocker, SIM tray, a single bottom-firing speaker, and a pair of noise-canceling microphones. However, it lacks a headphone port. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and an FHD+ AMOLED display that supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), although it doesn’t fully utilize HDR due to limitations with certain streaming platforms. The screen looks vibrant and offers a great viewing experience, thanks to its minimal bezels. While its single bottom-firing speaker doesn’t deliver top-notch sound like stereo speakers, it still provides decent audio quality.
When I first got the V27 phone, the 120 Hz display’s user interface wasn’t very smooth. It felt laggy when I scrolled through the phone. Over time, software updates improved the smoothness of the UI, but there was still some minimal lag remaining. Overall, the experience became smoother and better with the updates.
Cameras
When we tested the phone in various lighting and weather conditions, it consistently produced high-quality photos. In favorable lighting, it captured clear, detailed, and lively images with natural skin tones and balanced colors. The dynamic range was commendable. Even in low light, the phone performed well. However, occasionally, we noticed issues such as excessive saturation, particularly noticeable when shooting skies or under direct sunlight, resulting in overly vivid colors.
The wide-angle camera wasn’t very detailed, but it was still okay to use. However, the front camera takes really nice pictures with clear details and nice colors. When they introduced the phone, they talked about aura lighting, which basically means there are two flashlights next to each other, creating a soft light effect. This makes the images look smoother and better. But if you use regular light instead, it reduces the glare in the pictures.
Videos
When it comes to videos, the V27 offers high-quality footage. It can shoot 4k videos at 30 frames per second, but the stabilization isn’t perfect. When we tried using a stabilizer, there was a slight wobbling effect, and although the focus hunting was minimal, it did occur occasionally. Despite these issues, if you use the camera effectively, it can produce great videos. We’ve put together some short cinematic clips captured with the Vivo V27, which you can watch below.
The video has well-maintained colors, natural skin tones, and a decent range of brightness. However, due to stabilization, there’s noticeable wobbling in the footage. In short, the V27 camera is capable and effective. However, the necessary photo processing and software improvement are needed for excellence.
Gaming & Processor
During routine testing and casual gaming sessions, we didn’t observe any significant lagging or overheating issues with the phone. According to performance benchmarks like Antutu and Geekbench scores, as well as throttling tests, the Dimensity 7200 chipset performs well overall. However, if you’re someone who heavily uses demanding applications or plays intensive games, you might experience slight lags and heating problems. While playing games, we didn’t encounter any major lagging, but there were occasional frame rate drops. Despite this, most games were still playable.
If you’re following updates on the Vivo V27, you might know about features like Hot apps, hot games, and easily removable apps. Another standout feature is an app that displays warranty expiration dates, service center locations, and prices for phone accessories. It even offers a quick live support chat for feedback.
Battery & Charging
The battery is equipped with a capacity of 4600 mAh and is paired with a 66W power adapter, allowing for a rapid charging time averaging around 56 minutes for a complete recharge. Throughout the day, the device maintains usage on a single charge. Its battery capacity surpasses that of competitors’ smartphones by approximately 5000 mAh. Thanks to the efficient optimization of the 4nm chipset, battery consumption is effectively managed, mitigating any potential issues.
Conclusion
After using Vivo V27 over months, its design is sleek and reminiscent of a high-end smartphone. The display is top-notch with vivid colors, ample brightness, and minimal bezels, providing a satisfying viewing experience over months of usage. Although the camera tends to oversaturate photos, it performs adequately with potential improvements through future software updates. Overall, the camera setup is impressive, delivering satisfactory quality for everyday use.
In my experience, the phone works well for everyday activities. However, if you’re into gaming or video editing, it’s just okay with a strong processor. Yet, there are some small problems with the user interface and other issues that we hope can be fixed through software updates. Battery life is fine for regular use, but if you play games or edit videos, you’ll need to charge it often.
If you inquire about whether the Vivo V27 is worth NPR 58,999, I would say it’s suitable for everyday use. It offers a high-quality feel, excellent camera, good performance, and battery life. If you’re looking for a mid-range smartphone, the Vivo V27 won’t let you down.
