At MWC 2023, Xiaomi unveiled its “Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition” concept. It is the company’s first wireless augmented reality glass and features distributed processing and a retina-level display that adapts to the environment.
Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition Overview:
Built & Design
Xiaomi used lightweight materials such as carbon fiber, silicon-oxygen anode batteries, and magnesium-lithium alloy to ensure that the wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition is lightweight and comfortable to wear, with a weight of just 126 grams.
1st Retina-level Display: The glass also features a retina-level display, a Micro OLED panel with a PPD of 58, and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits. The electrochromic lenses are capable of adjusting to different lighting conditions.
Robust Performances
Xiaomi has integrated high-speed interconnection buses into the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition to facilitate rapid data transfer between devices.
The AR glass connects to a phone with a wireless delay of only 3ms, thanks to the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 Platform and Xiaomi’s low-latency communication link. It can also connect wirelessly with a full link latency of 50ms, which is comparable to a wired connection.
Xiaomi claims to have analyzed tens of thousands of head-tracking data samples to optimize the fit of the AR glass, taking into account factors such as the center of gravity, limb spacing, angle, and nose rest.
Natural Gesture Control
Xiaomi’s Wireless AR Glass uses the inner finger joints of the user as the region for gesture recognition, with the second joint of the index finger functioning as the upward direction, and the directional control going from the second joint of the middle finger to the second joint of the index finger, forming a four-way directional key for basic movement tasks in the environment.
It enables users to perform standard actions such as selecting and launching apps, swiping through pages, and using sliding and tapping operations through micro gestures without the need for a smartphone as a control device.
However, users also have the option of using their phones as controls if they prefer. The gestures can be viewed in action in the embedded tweet above.

Other Features Supports
Users can use Xiaomi’s Mi Share feature to project a range of large-screen content, such as TikTok and YouTube, onto the Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. By using spatial gestures, users can also move and resize familiar apps within their field of view.
However, it is important to note that this AR glass can only connect to Snapdragon Spaces-ready devices, including the Xiaomi 13 series and OnePlus 11. The Microsoft MRTK development framework, OpenXR, and Snapdragon Spaces provide the necessary software tools for the AR glass.
