The Apple Watch Series 8 is a mid-range smartwatch with an always-on Retina LTPO OLED panel, Up to 1000 nits brightness, and Ion-X glass (Aluminum) / Sapphire crystal (Stainless Steel).
Apple Watch Series 8 Overview
Although the “Watch Series” was always known as a premium quality smartwatch, now compared to the latest launched “Apple Watch Ultra”, it has less impressive specifications and features. The Ultra version is said to be much more top-tier than Watch Series with double the price range and features.
The Apple Watch Series 8 is said to be quite similar to Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro. Which is a mid-range smartwatch and further now let’s head start with Apple Watch Series 8 features, specifications, prices, and availability in Nepal.
Build & Display

The watch is similar to its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 7, both the watches share comparable designs, displays, and battery life. They feature a square chassis available in either 41mm or 45mm sizes, with options for aluminum or stainless steel casings. But unlike the predecessor, the Series 8 does not offer a titanium case option.
Apple has also discontinued the Blue and Green metal models and introduced a new Silver model instead. In terms of durability, the Watch Series 8 is WR50 certified, allowing it to withstand submersion in water up to 50 meters. It is also IP6X dust resistant, providing added protection. As for the display, there haven’t been significant changes. It features a curved Retina LTPO OLED screen, available in 1.61- or 1.77-inch sizes.
The display supports always-on functionality, allowing users to view important information without needing to activate the watch face. While the stainless steel models utilize a more robust sapphire crystal glass for protection, the aluminum version employs an Ion-X glass display. Likewise, the screen can achieve a maximum brightness of 1000 nits, ensuring excellent visibility in various lighting conditions.

Performance
It is powered by the new S8 chip, which brings notable improvements compared to its predecessor, the Apple Watch Series 7. Reports suggest that this dual-core CPU delivers a 20% performance boost over the previous generation’s Apple S7 microprocessor. Moreover, it includes the U1 ultra-wideband processor, which is not present in the more affordable Apple Watch SE 2 (2nd generation). Additionally, the watch features the W3 wireless chip for seamless connectivity.
Its built-in components such as the gyroscope, high dynamic range accelerometer, barometer, GPS, microphone, and Apple’s advanced sensor-fusion algorithm. This function can detect car crashes, meaning the watch can instantly send your current location information to your emergency contact and emergency services, providing an added layer of safety.

The watch comes with watchOS 9 pre-installed, which introduces several new features. These include international roaming, Sleep Stages for enhanced sleep tracking, AFib history tracking, a redesigned Compass app, and a new Medications app. However, it’s worth noting that these features will also be available on earlier Apple Watch models, specifically the Series 4 or later versions.
New Temperature Sensor
Among the few upgrades, the watch also has two temperature sensors—one on the back and another next to the display. This dual-sensor setup allows the watch to analyze your body’s average temperature during sleep, providing a more detailed understanding of your sleep cycles. Apple claims that it can detect temperature variations as small as 0.1°C.
This function plays a crucial role in monitoring and predicting women’s menstrual cycles, in addition to sleep tracking. With this information, it can even provide predictions about the onset of menstruation. Apple emphasizes that all this sensitive data remains securely stored on the device, and users have the choice to share it with their healthcare providers if desired.
In terms of monitoring temperature, it offers a range of other health features such as measuring stress levels, blood oxygen levels, and performing ECG readings. The watch is also capable of tracking various types of physical activities, including walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, squats, and multisport sessions. As is customary, Apple is providing a three-month subscription to Apple Fitness+ with the purchase of any new Apple Watch.

Battery & Other Features
Regrettably, there have been no improvements to the battery life. Users can still expect the same 18 hours of endurance, which Apple refers to as “all-day battery life.” However, there is a “Low Power” mode available on the watchOS 9 platform, which can extend battery life up to 36 hours. It’s important to note that enabling this mode will disable certain features such as alarms, automatic workout recognition, and the always-on display functionality.
Another benefit is their rapid charging capabilities. It can charge from empty to 80% in under 45 minutes, making it convenient for quick top-ups. A full charge takes approximately 75 minutes.
