Starck Tech (authorized distributor of Obi Worldphone for Nepal) has recently launched Obi MV1 a phone with an incorporated design of previous two models Obi SF1 and Obi SJ1.5. Obi MV1 is the most stylish budget smartphone available in the market and comes with a Polycarbonate plastic body which gives it a gorgeous look and premium feel. Obi MV1 comes with a dimension of 145.6mm height, 72.6mm width and 8.95mm thick.
Obi MV1 comes with 5 inches of Floating laminated IPS display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. On the top -front, there is 2MP front-facing camera with an earpiece, Ambient Light Sensor & notification light. The phone does not come with physical capacitive buttons but Obi MV1 comes with virtual capacitive buttons for Back, Home and Recent Apps.
On the back, Obi MV1 has an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a secondary mic for noise cancellation on its right side and a speaker on the rear bottom of the phone.

On the right side of the phone, there is a volume rocker key and a power key button. On the bottom of the phone there is a microUSB port and a primary microphone and on the top of the phone, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack port.
Obi MV1 comes with a dual-sim(micro sim + micro sim) option and the sim card can be inserted by removing 2500 mAh removable battery. The phone does not come with a hybrid sim-tray which gives the option to use both dual-sim and a microSD card which wouldn’t have been possible if it had a hybrid sim tray because hybrid sim tray allows users to use either a sim card and a microSD card or both sim cards only instead of a microSD card.
Obi MV1 incorporates a floating display which gives it a unique and stylish look compared to other smartphones available in the market. This phone is a great choice for those who wish to have a unique smartphone within an affordable budget and the phone also produces vibrant colours and is very responsive to the fingers. Obi MV1 comes with a “Sunlight Display” which help the users to use the phone outdoors but under direct sunlight, you will have to glare a bit on the display to read the text messages and do other stuff.
Talking about the performance of the Obi MV1, the performance of this phone was good during the review period on normal uses but during the heavy use, I have faced a bit fall in the performance and also drop in the frame rate of the phone. The main cause of the drop in the performance is due to the processor which is not built for heavy use. Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset with 1.3GHz processor is not a great combination for using for performing heavy tasks but I got surprised by seeing that the phone performs better in the real world as I didn’t get any lag or down in the performance during normal uses which may be due to the 2GB RAM used in this device. The cyanogen interface gives a user more option to customise their phone according to their taste which is really a great option provided by Obi to its users. During the review period, I felt that the phone heats up easily in the normal use also and gets pretty hot to the point where the user has to struggle to hold the phone in the hand during heavy usage.
AnTuTu Benchmark Score
Obi MV1 is packed with 8MP of rear camera with f2.2 aperture and a LED flash. Along with it, this phone has a 2MP front facing camera which is both average cameras compared to other smartphones available in the market. The rear camera is capable of shooting up to 720p videos and offers a frame rate of 60 frames per second with which you can try slow motion videos as well. However, you cannot shoot at 60 frames per second at a resolution of 720p.The camera in MV1 is good compared to the price that you are paying for.
Obi MV1 Camera Sample
During the review period, I found the camera taking some awesome photos with a level of detail colour production. Obi MV1 comes with three different auto exposure modes which improve the photo quality. The low light photography with this camera is a messy job and the pictures are not clear and smooth. The front camera in the MV1 is not the best as compared to the other smartphones in its price range but it tries to take some decent photos.
Battery performance of the Obi MV1 is satisfactory, this phone gave me 24 hours of battery backup in the normal use but during the heavy usage, the battery performance is poor. I would like to say that the battery performance depends on various factors and judging the battery with only 10 days of use.
Obi MV1 (Battery Performance)
Obi MV1 is the best choice for the people who wants a stylish phone at the very affordable price. The phone is not the powerhouse so if you are looking for the phone to do the heavy work then this phone is not for you. The phone is best suited for the entry level smartphone users. The cyanogen OS provides the user’s a variable range of choices with an option to fully customize the User Interface according to their own need with which you can make your UI simple and stylish. The phone also supports 4G which makes it a really good choice if you want a smartphone which supports 4G.This phone is one of the best entry level budget friendly smartphone and you can get this at a cheap price of Rs.15,610
